“WAR?! WILL THIS BE ANOTHER JULY WAR?” was an exciting question to ask yesterday following Hezbollah-Israeli events. And knowing Israel’s love of war, in Lebanon, we worry, you know? Cuz sometimes we get killed, sometimes we don’t, and fussy people like to know. Y’know? So I hereby present you with my brief response to your esteemed question (wasn’t brief to draw though). I hope this makes you all feel better. See drawing below.

You’re so welcome.

Big fan of you as a thinker and writer but I’m a bit confused by the inference in spite of your obvious sarcasm. Was Hezbollah NOT supposed to respond after IsraHELL’s attack in Syria recently?

    • Sara El-Yafi says:

Hi Osman. Thanks a lot for your nice words, and thanks for asking this question. I wasn’t trying to state whether they were in “position” to do so or not at all; I think it is too late in the discourse to say anything about “supposed to” within the framework of Hezbollah’s military activities today. There are so many antecedents, that it’s difficult for either party to decide not have the last word. So trying to weigh in on it is a little hopeless. The sarcasm of my illustration is more aimed at the nation as a whole, including myself obviously. Because we are always asking these crazy questions, “will there be war?”, a friend of mine’s husband asked her to stock up on bread and tuna cans.. it’s so insane, you know? We ask “will there be war?” like people in other countries ask “what’s for dinner tonight?”. So I figured, an idiosyncratic question (no matter how understandable) warrants an idiosyncratic answer, and I thought, who better to deliver it than the Sayyed himself. Hope it’s clearer now.

    Three things:
    1. Wow you have a gift, Sara. Or shall I say, gifts. Your illustration, your writing, your wit, your talent, your wording. Impeccable. And so enticingly convincing.
    2. You are wise, brave and so elegant in the way you express yourself. You can change a lot of things about the world.
    3. I love you.
